Another entry in the catalogue of disappearance. The Stables Market at Camden closed yesterday. Boarded up awaiting de-generation. Passed with barely a wimper. I went along yesterday to log the events, but there weren't any, just dejected traders and "closing down sale" signs. How could one of London's landmarks be destroyed and there not be angry protests? Just mild indifference. Russell Brand gave it good coverage on his Radio2 show but that aside not a word in the London or National press.
What awaits Camden? A doubling of the rents at the revamped Stables, meaning an end to the speculative independent trader. The chainstores arrive, then wilderness - afterall why schlepp up to Camden to go to H&M. Maybe Camden will fullfill Richard Jefferies' vision and return to wilderness. Here's hoping.

The four horsemen of the apocalypse are rumoured to be looking for stables in the north London area, from which to launch their imminent charge. Wonder if they'll be able to afford the doubling of the rents, mind you I don't think bailiffs hold any fear for them.
According to Demis Roussos, "the leading horse is white, the second horse is red, the third one is a black, the last one is a green". So maybe R. Jefferies' atavistic green prophecy will indeed be fulfilled.
... after which, at the end of September, the many-hued horsemen will be seen bolting their NW1 stables and charging south, towards Soho, and the demise of the New Piccadilly cafe...
All going, all going. And to be replaced by what? The little tennis court opposite my kitchen window, disused for years and reverting back to secondary woodland (there were ants' nests a couple of years back) all ripped up and shortly to be converted to...A CAR PARK. Now, how is that for imagination? And with London Borough of Barnet's supposed committment to reducing CO2. What goes on? It breaks my mind.
The word used to describe the color of the 'pale' horse is the Greek word chloros or green. It is meant to convey the sickly green tinge of the deathly ill or recently dead. Since the literal translation 'green' does not carry these connotations in English the word is rendered 'pale' in most English translations.
Milton William Cooper was an American writer, militia supporter and conspiracy theorist. Cooper is perhaps best known for this 1991 book which details many of his claims about various conspiracy theories. The title is from the Bible, Revelation 6:8: "And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him." The book includes the text of The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion, an infamous anti-Semitic hoax document. Cooper placed a notice at the beginning of the chapter that the Protocols were not Jewish in origin but were disguised as such.
Written after Cooper had been a member of the US Naval Intelligence Briefing Team of the Commander in Chief of the United States Pacific Fleet, Behold a Pale Horse details Cooper's claims about the influence of UFOs on the US government, the New World Order, the assassination of President Kennedy, and the Apollo Moon landing.
The circumstances surrounding Cooper's death are controversial. On November 5, 2001, officers of the Apache County Sheriff's Office decided to serve Cooper a warrant based on the above-mentioned charges. For reasons not explained, the Sheriff's Office sent deputies to Cooper's home at approximately 11:00PM, and instead of knocking on his door and announcing themselves, the deputies attempted to lure Cooper from his house by posing as civilians playing loud music on or near his property. Cooper, who was an above the knee amputee, went down to investigate the scene in his truck. It is disputed as to whether the deputies identified themselves or tried to serve an arrest warrant at that time. Nevertheless, Cooper announced he was returning to his house to contact the Eagar Police Department, either to verify the warrant or to contact the local authorities in order to report what he may have still believed was a real disturbance. Before he could do so however, the sheriff's deputies tried to apprehend him, at which point shooting began. Cooper was armed and one deputy was wounded. Another deputy returned fire, killing Cooper.
"Cooper states that he has traced the history of the nefarious
Illuminati all the way back to the Ancient Temple of Wisdom in Cairo,
long before the birth of Christ. 'The Illuminati exist today under many different names and many different occupations.' Cooper told us. 'They
practice Hegalian conflict/resolution. They appear to oppose each other
at the bottom ranks, but at the highest levels they are actually
organizing and controlling the conflict which they have created to
produce the solution that they seek.
"'The Illuminati are extremely powerful, very wealthy men. They believe
that they are the guardians of the secrets of the ages. They believe
that the vast majority of people would not know what to do with the
real knowledge and the real truth and the real science -- and would, in
fact, misuse them all. They further believe that everything that they
do is for the ultimate betterment and survival of humankind -- even if
it means killing two billion people to reach their goal...'"
